The Transformative Power of Words

Your words wield immense power, capable of shaping atmospheres that not only affect you but also influence others. Proverbs 18:21 says that life and death are in the power of our tongues and those who love it will eat its fruit and bear the consquences of their words.

In Numbers 13:1, the Lord said to Moses, “Send out for yourself men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each of their fathers’ tribes send one man who is a leader among them.” Moses followed the Lord’s command, and after forty days, the men returned to present their report and said, “We went into the land to which you sent us, and indeed, it is flowing with milk and honey. Here is some of its fruit! Nevertheless, the people living in the land are strong, and the cities are large and fortified. We even saw the descendants of Anak there.” After the account, Caleb said, “We must go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly conquer it!” to which, the men that had reported what they saw said, “We cannot go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are!” and continued to say in Numbers 13:33 that “We even saw the Nephilim there—the descendants of Anak that come from the Nephilim! We seemed like grasshoppers in our own sight, and we must have seemed the same to them!.”

Often, you may allow circumstances in your life to dictate your words. You can be like the men who gave the bad report and allow your mouth to speak doubt and fear, creating an atmosphere of impossibility, hopelessness, and worry. However, you can choose to emulate Caleb, refusing to let circumstances dictate your speech. Instead you can choose to speak words that release power, faith and courage and empower you to overcome any obstacle.

Every day, God grants you the ability to choose your words. What you speak and focus on will shape your reality. The decision lies with you—to speak words that either undermine or empower you. The choice is yours.

In Christ’s love,

Athelia
